Fort Worth Second Chance Team wants this site to work for everyone who needs to find housing, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or captions.

Standard we build to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That target shapes the choices behind this site:

  • Semantic HTML with correct landmarks and a single H1 per page
  • A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page
  • Visible focus indicators on every link, button, and form field
  • Full keyboard operation, including the navigation menu and FAQ accordions
  • Text and background colour combinations tested for contrast
  • Descriptive alt text on informative images, and empty alt on decorative ones
  • Form fields with real labels, not placeholder text standing in for labels
  • Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to a 320px viewport

Known limitations

Embedded third-party content, including map embeds, is outside our direct control and may not meet the same standard. If a map is the barrier, call or text us and we will describe the location, commute, and surroundings directly.

Fair housing note

Accessibility features are attributes of a property, and we describe them the same way we describe any other unit feature. We never ask about or reference a renter’s disability. If you need specific accessibility features in a unit, tell us which features and we will include them in the search criteria.
